ROV operated conductor drill pin
Mirage has designed and developed a machine for it's sister company Claxton to recover a drilling slot by drilling and pinning the 90m conductor just above the severance point and thus allowing the inner casings to bear the weight of the conductor. The machine was based around its already tried and proven double drill unit and modified for ROV operation.
Conductor drill pin
With the standard double drill unit the conductor and casings are first drilled then a separate lifting pin inserted. We quickly realised that this would be difficult to operate with an ROV so decided a drill that then acted as a lift pin would be an elegant idea. The drill uses a high tensile steel drill and pin 4in in diameter that can withstand 100 t forces.
